The West Coast Region (Te Kaunihera Whakakotahi o Te Tai Poutini) extends over a distance of 600 km from Kahurangi Point in the north to Awarua Point in the south. The fifth largest region in New Zealand, it is bounded in the east by the Southern Alps and in the west by the Tasman Sea. Nature has endowed the Region with a spectacular environment, with over 80 per cent of the land area under Department of Conservation stewardship.

Job Description

If you are an exceptional Executive Assistant who thrives in a fast-paced environment, knows how to stay three steps ahead, and can handle sensitive information with absolute discretion, we would love to hear from you.

As Executive Assistant to the Chief Executive and Chair, you will be at the centre of the West Coast Regional Council’s executive and governance environment. You will work closely with our Chief Executive and Chair, helping coordinate priorities, navigate competing demands, connect people and information, and keep things moving.

You will be trusted with important conversations, sensitive information and high-profile relationships. From coordinating executive diaries and Council meetings to preparing briefings, managing correspondence and supporting engagement with Councillors, Ministers, iwi and key stakeholders – you will have a front-row seat to the work that shapes the future of the West Coast.

  • Relationship focused – you are comfortable dealing with everyone from elected members and senior leaders to Ministers, iwi and community representatives.
  • Detail driven – you spot the things others might miss and take pride in getting it right.
  • Tech savvy – you are confident with Microsoft 365, digital workflows and document management systems.
  • A step ahead – you anticipate needs, identify risks and solve problems.

You will ideally have 5+ years’ experience in a senior Executive Assistant or comparable role, with experience supporting a Chief Executive, senior executive or elected members. Experience in local or central government as well as a relevant tertiary qualification will be highly regarded.

A full New Zealand driver licence is required.
