The West Coast Region (Te Kaunihera Whakakotahi o Te Tai Poutini) extends over a distance of 600 km from Kahurangi Point in the north to Awarua Point in the south. The fifth largest region in New Zealand, it is bounded in the east by the Southern Alps and in the west by the Tasman Sea. Job Description

The West Coast Regional Council is looking for a motivated Field Supervisor to lead the day-to-day delivery of pest control operations across the region.

This is a hands-on role where you will supervise a team of Field Operators, coordinate daily field activities, ensure work is completed safely and to a high standard, and support the delivery of important environmental programmes that help protect the West Coast's unique landscapes.

What you will do

  • Lead, coach and support a team of Field Operators.
  • Allocate daily work and coordinate field activities.
  • Carry out quality checks and ensure work meets operational standards.
  • Promote a strong health and safety culture.
  • Ensure vehicles, equipment and PPE are field-ready.
  • Build positive relationships with landowners, contractors and colleagues.
  • Identify and resolve day-to-day operational issues, escalating where required.

Desired Skills and Experience

About you

You will be a practical leader who enjoys working outdoors and supporting others to do their best work. Ideally, you will have:

  • A Controlled Substance Licence, level 3, and a certificate in Pest Management
  • Experience in pest plant control, biosecurity or environmental field operations.
  • Strong communication and organisational skills.
  • A proactive, solutions-focused approach.
  • A commitment to health and safety.
  • A full New Zealand driver's licence, with the ability to drive a manual vehicle.
  • A Current First Aid certificate.
