Permanent - Full Time
Main South Road Greymouth
Administration and Office

The West Coast Region (Te Kaunihera Whakakotahi o Te Tai Poutini) extends over a distance of 600 km from Kahurangi Point in the north to Awarua Point in the south. The fifth largest region in New Zealand, it is bounded in the east by the Southern Alps and in the west by the Tasman Sea. Nature has endowed the Region with a spectacular environment, with over 80 per cent of the land area under Department of Conservation stewardship.

Within this vast natural setting, the West Coast Regional Council plays a pivotal role in managing the environment from an economic, social, cultural and sustainability perspective. This ensures the community and its future generations will continue to appreciate the work opportunities, environment, spectacular outdoors and life balance offered in this stunning part of New Zealand.

Job Description

At the West Coast Regional Council, we are proud to work alongside our communities to care for the rivers, land, and environment that make the West Coast such a special place to live.

We are looking for a Catchment Management Coordinator to join our friendly and supportive team. This is a varied role where you will help coordinate projects and programmes that support catchment management, environmental outcomes, and community resilience across the region.

You will work closely with technical staff, landowners, iwi, contractors, elected members, and community stakeholders — helping keep projects organised, relationships strong, and programmes moving forward.

In this role, you will:

  • Support catchment and environmental programmes and projects
  • Coordinate meetings, reporting, and governance documentation
  • Assist with procurement and contract administration
  • Help monitor budgets, timelines, and programme delivery
  • Build positive working relationships with a wide range of people
  • Support continuous improvement across systems and processes

Desired Skills and Experience

We are looking for someone who:

  • Loves being organised and keeping things running smoothly
  • Enjoys working with people and building strong relationships
  • Communicates confidently and professionally
  • Can manage multiple priorities while maintaining attention to detail
  • Brings experience in coordination, administration, or programme support

Local government or project coordination experience would be a bonus, but just as important is your attitude, initiative, and willingness to contribute to a positive team environment.

Why join us?

At the West Coast Regional Council, we genuinely care about our people. We offer a supportive workplace, meaningful work, and the opportunity to be part of projects that make a lasting impact on the West Coast community and environment.

Apply now and join us in helping care for the West Coast for future generations.
