The West Coast Region (Te Kaunihera Whakakotahi o Te Tai Poutini) extends over a distance of 600 km from Kahurangi Point in the north to Awarua Point in the south. The fifth largest region in New Zealand, it is bounded in the east by the Southern Alps and in the west by the Tasman Sea. Nature has endowed the Region with a spectacular environment, with over 80 per cent of the land area under Department of Conservation stewardship.
Within this vast natural setting, the West Coast Regional Council plays a pivotal role in managing the environment from an economic, social, cultural and sustainability perspective. We are looking for someone who loves engaging with people, providing clear and helpful information, and delivering a professional, positive experience every time. This role is at the heart of our operations, supporting both our community and our teams with essential administrative and financial processes.
What you will be doing:
Greeting visitors and helping with enquiries in person, by phone, email, and online, ensuring everyone feels welcomed and supported.
Maintaining a tidy and inviting reception and public spaces.
Supporting internal teams with administrative tasks, meeting coordination, and office logistics.
Assisting with staff travel and accommodation bookings and providing backup support to our finance team as needed.
Helping ratepayers with enquiries and supporting the integrity of our Rates Information Database.
Desired Skills and Experience
What we are looking for:
Minimum 3 years’ experience in customer service, ideally in local or regional government.
Confident handling of cash and financial transactions.
Excellent communication skills and a warm, professional approach.
Strong administrative skills, with attention to detail and proficiency in Microsoft Office.
A collaborative team player who can balance multiple tasks while maintaining a positive, helpful attitude.
Full New Zealand driver’s licence.
